The Weather and Your Cat

June 8, 2021 by Jemile Nesimi-Hobson Leave a Comment

We all know that a bad storm can put your cat on edge. Let’s talk about how and why different types of weather can affect your cat’s mood and behavior.

Noise

Noise is one of the main reasons your cats and kittens will freak out when a storm comes.  All of the heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and high winds can cause a lot of scary noise.  Cats have hyper-sensitive hearing and are good at pinpointing the direction they are coming. However, it can be overwhelming, especially if they are indoors and cannot quite see what is going on.  Storms give your kitty anxiety and put them in a very fearful mood.

Rain

Cats hate getting wet, mainly because wet fur is very uncomfortable and takes forever to dry.  Wet fur is heavy and makes it harder for a cat to naturally move around or run in the case of bad weather!  Some cats enjoy playing with water but will stay clear of a rainstorm. [Read more…]

600 Cats and Counting

March 21, 2019 by Patricia Dugan Leave a Comment

Wait, what? 600 cats in one place, at one time? Yes, please! You too?

Well, at least it sounds pretty cool. Lanai Cat Sanctuary in Lanai City, Hawaii is a nonprofit organization where more than 600 spayed and neutered kitties call home. Sometimes called “purr-adise” or “fur seasons”, you can visit this island of cats and even adopt if you so choose. Some folks even travel to Lanai City just to visit the “Hawaiian Lions.” But don’t worry, these furry felines are well taken care of with access to over 25,000 square feet of outdoor space and a plenty of different structures to climb on and hide within. Interested in visiting and getting your kitty-fix for the year? Check out their website for more information.

Guinness World Record today. World Domination tomorrow.

January 11, 2019 by Patricia Dugan Leave a Comment

Is there a cat underneath all of that hair? You know, I asked myself the same thing when I first saw this picture. Named Colonel Meow, this Himalayan-Persian mix held the Guinness World Record for a cat with the longest fur back in 2014 with fur strands averaging nine inches in length! One of his favorite pastimes is sitting atop his cat castle and watch the world go by below him.

Interested in learning more about the late furry feline? No worries, he still has his own website, Facebook page and YouTube channel! Watch this video about Colonel Meow and who he was as a cat.

Catstanbul aka Istanbul

August 19, 2018 by Patricia Dugan Leave a Comment

Welcome to Istanbul, the feline capital of the world. Due to religion and culture cats hold a high position in this city, and a special place in many of the resident’s hearts. These royal furry creatures can be found in Istanbul’s mosques, coffee houses, tea shops, butcher shops, and local cafes lounging on the floor or even in the best seats of the house, always undisturbed. Streets and alleyways are lined with cat-sized houses and condos, food, and water bowls ready to take in any and all of the kitty residents of Istanbul. Hundreds of thousands of cats have roamed this city for thousands of years and probably for thousands of years to come. Next stop? Istanbul!
