This one features a cat that seems to be “waterproof.” Huffie, a shorthair cat in the United Kingdom, loves water but can’t seem to get “wet.” His owner uploaded the video on September 8th, saying, “When you’re attempting to take a shower, but you’re waterproof.” The video on TikTok shows Huffie pawing at the running faucet as the water drips upon his fur and appears to flow off. June is Adopt a Cat Month
Each year during June is considered “kitten season,” and most of these adorable kitties end up in animal shelters. The American Humane celebrates June as Adopt-A-Cat Month to encourage people to adopt kittens and cats in animal shelters. Unfortunately, millions of cats are living in shelters right now. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has considerably decreased the foot traffic, funding, and supplies that covers have made it even harder to find these vulnerable cats their forever homes.
2021 is the 46th year of the American Humane’s “Adopt-A-Cat Month,” and they help you find all the resources you need to add a kitten or cat to your family. It is a sad statistic, but the reality is 70% of cats that go into American shelters are never adopted and are euthanized – according to the ASPCA, that equals 860,000 cats per year. What are Cat Café’s, Lounges, and Cat Bookstores?
You may have noticed that your local news or magazine is featuring a cat café, cat lounge, or cat bookstore. Usually, the goal of these spaces is to help cats find forever homes by allowing them to freely roam around safely, socialize with people, get daily affection while awaiting adoption (the human guests benefit from this as well), and create awareness of homeless cats that need to be adopted.
Cat cafés began in Taiwan, the first opened in 1998 in Taipei. It quickly became quite popular with Japanese tourists and by 2004 the first Japanese cat cafe opened in Osaka. Japan currently has over 150 cat cafes today! Soon the world took note and Korea, Austria, Hungary, Spain, France, Germany, the UK, and North America joined the movement.
