Lately, pretty litter has been seen everywhere on social – with celebrity endorsements including Martha Stewart. This litter says it monitors your cat’s health – “Pretty Litter’s lightweight litter monitors feline health by changing colors when it detects abnormalities in your cat’s urine.” A nifty way to check your cat, since they are unable to tell you what is wrong when they have symptoms. Pretty Litter is a subscription-based product created by Daniel Rotman who “lost a beloved cat that showed no obvious signs of sickness.”
How does it work?
The crystals in Pretty Litter change color based on your cat’s urine – by monitoring the pH level.
If the crystals turn the following, you will know your cat’s health
- Olive green – normal pH urine
- Blue – urinary tract infection (UTI)
- Dark orange – metabolic acidosis and kidney tubular acidosis
- Red – Blood in urine
According to a review by Wired.com – Pretty litter rated it as a 6 out of 10 – stating it “ Potentially monitors a cat’s health and may offer preventative care. Produces less waste.” The con was: “Not all cats like crystal litter. Very dusty. Can be hard to tell what the color designation is for. On the pricier side.”
