This truly unique kitten, popular amongst celebrities like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran for their owl-like appearance, was first bred in 1961 by a farmer in Scotland. These felines are known for their folded ears, caused by a natural dominant-genetic mutation that affects cartilage in their ears, causing them to fold over. This breed is very much laid back with a playful demeanor and simply likes to be near their humans at all times. Read more about this distinctive yet special cat here. I mean, come on, with a face like a teddy bear, how could you not want one?!

Catstanbul aka Istanbul
Welcome to Istanbul, the feline capital of the world. Due to religion and culture cats hold a high position in this city, and a special place in many of the resident’s hearts. These royal furry creatures can be found in Istanbul’s mosques, coffee houses, tea shops, butcher shops, and local cafes lounging on the floor or even in the best seats of the house, always undisturbed. Streets and alleyways are lined with cat-sized houses and condos, food, and water bowls ready to take in any and all of the kitty residents of Istanbul. Hundreds of thousands of cats have roamed this city for thousands of years and probably for thousands of years to come. Next stop? Istanbul!
Welcome to the Isle of Cats
If your definition of paradise is a place where cats outnumber humans 6:1 then I have paradise waiting for you…in Japan. Welcome to the Isle of Cats, the feline-run fishing village of Aoshima. How did so many cats end up on this Japanese island, you ask? Back in the 1940’s felines were introduced into the population in order to manage the mice population. If you are interested in visiting know that there is only one ferry which runs only twice a day. But here’s the good news: Aoshima is actually one of about 12 cat islands in Japan which means that you could get your cat fix for life, without ever leaving the country. More good news: earlier this year an announcement was made that efforts would be made to start spaying and neutering the entire cat population to help control numbers. Who’s going with me?!
In other news, I learned today that a group of cats is called a clowder. You’re welcome. 🙂
Happy And Sleepy At The Same Time?
Can you be happy AND sleepy at the same time? Sure you can! Just ask Shironeko known as the happiest and sleepiest cat ever. Shironeko, whose name translates to “white cat” in Japanese, is asleep more than he is awake. This ultra-relaxed kitty is known as the “zen master cat” for his ability to be absolutely content, 24/7. You might look at this feline and think to yourself, how can one cat be so lazy? But then, you think to yourself again and realize that he’s just at peace with the world, never sweating the small stuff, and just enjoying his surroundings. We should all learn a thing or two from Shironeko, the ultimate cat napper.
