Ernest Hemingway’s Cats Survive Irma

When Ernest Hemingway was alive, he owned a white polydactyl cat. Polydactyl cats are cats born with a congenital physical anomaly that causes it to be born with more than the usual number of toes on one or more of its paws. A unique characteristic to say the least!

There are now 54 cats in total that live at the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, FL, many of whom are descendants of the one owned by Ernest himself. With Hurricane Irma slamming the Keys with her powerful winds and rain, animal lovers from all over worried about the cats. But thanks to the general manager, the house’s curator, and a few employees, all 54 cats survived the storm, safe and sound, within the walls of the Hemingway home. Read the full story here.
